Deep-sea mud shrimp and shovel-nosed lobster from the Arabian Sea as prospective sources of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids

چکیده

Fatty acid profile of deep-sea mud shrimp (Solenocera hextii) and shovel-nosed lobsters (Thenus unimaculatus) harvested from south-west coast (Arabian Sea) India were evaluated compared. Palmitic oleic acids the principle saturated fatty monounsaturated acids, respectively in lobster species. T. unimaculatus contained greater concentrations C20-22 n-3 polyunsaturated such as docosahexaenoic eicosapentaenoic acid. Higher n-3/n-6 ratio (greater than 4) addition to considerably polyunsaturated/saturated (>1.2) hypocholesterolaemic/hypercholesterolaemic (>2) recorded compared shrimp. Lesser thrombogenicity (?0.5) atherogenicity (<1.0) indices recognised a desirable marine species for human nutrition. Keywords: Atherogenicity index, Deep-sea shrimp, acid, Thrombogenicity Shovel-nosed

Omega-3 Long Chain Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids as Sensitizing

The efficacy of chemotherapy depends on sensitivity and intrinsic or acquired drug 14 resistance of cancer cells. The n-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 LCPUFAs) are 15 considered chemosensitizing agents and revertants of multidrug resistance by pleiotropic 16 mechanisms. The specific mechanisms are not fully understood, but nowadays, it is widely accepted 17 that there are a compl...

Distribution of polyunsaturated Fatty acids in bacteria present in intestines of deep-sea fish and shallow-sea poikilothermic animals.

The lipid and fatty acid compositions in nine obligate and facultative barophilic bacteria isolated from the intestinal contents of seven deep-sea fish were determined. Phospholipid compositions were simple, with phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylglycerol predominating in all strains. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA; 22:6n-3), which has not been reported in procaryotes except for deep-sea bact...

Synthesis of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids in preterm newborns fed formula with long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids.

BACKGROUND Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and arachidonic acid (AA) are long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPs) that play pivotal roles in growth and neurodevelopment. OBJECTIVE We aimed to quantify the synthesis of LCPs in preterm infants fed infant formula containing LCPs. DESIGN Twenty-two preterm infants were randomly assigned to either the no-LCP group (fed formula without LCPs; n = ...

Perinatal biochemistry and physiology of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids.

Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and arachidonic acid (ARA) are important structural components of the central nervous system. These fatty acids are transferred across the placenta, are present in human milk, and are accumulated in the brain and retina during fetal and infant development. The high concentrations of DHA in the retina and of DHA and ARA in brain gray matter suggests that these fatty ac...

Long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids in the mammalian brain.

Introduction The lipid-rich nature of the brain has been recognized for a long time and it is thought that the presence of myelin in the brain accounts for most of the lipid. However, brain grey matter is also rich in lipid (mostly glycerophospholipids) by comparison with other tissues (Svennerholm, 1968). The polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) associated with tissue glycerophospholipids are de...
